I would like to invite you to a end-of-summer dance to be held at the studio in my home on Saturday, August 23, 2008. It would not be an instructional setting (i.e., it's not a class); it's just a time to practice your dancing, see old friends, and meet new ones. Like dance classes, you can come with a partner or by yourself; either way will work.
Although my dance studio is large enough to host a good dance, it's no Club Tico. That means I'll have to limit attendees to 40 peoplewe can't fit more than about that, even assuming there are some people sitting down or hovering around the goodies table at any particular timeso if you are interested in coming, let me know as soon as you can to get your name on the list.
Here are the logistics:
| Who: | Everyone I sent an email invitation to. If you have a friend you'd like to invite, that's fine; just let me know so I can put your name and your friend's name on the list. |
| What: | Like previous dance events, this dance will have several kinds of music to enable several kinds of dance: Lindy Hop, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Waltz, Tango, West-Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Rueda, Shim-Sham, Nightclub Two-Step, Balboa, and more (although not at the same time, of course! :) The various styles will be intermixed, so if you know one style but not another, you can just sit out or talk to people during songs whose style you don't know how to dance to (unless, of course, you'd like to try something new). There will be chairs around the sides of the room, and refreshments will be providedthere will be a heavily-laden goodies table of which you are welcome to partake. . . |
| Where: | The dance studio in Dave Arns' home at 813 Marshall Street. Carpool if possible; we don't have a parking lot! Park first in the drivewayit will hold six carsthen in front on my house, and finally in front of other people's houses. Please limit it to one car in front of other people's houses; we want to be good neighbors. Also, please do not park in front of the house directly across the street from my house. If you are the first car in any of the "slots" on the driveway, please pull up close enough to the house that someone else can park behind you without blocking the sidewalk. (Of course, if you are the second car in any of the slots on the driveway, please pull up close enough to the car in front of you that you don't block the sidewalk.) |
| Wear: | Something cool (literally and stylishly). It's often a good idea to wear something with multiple layers so if you get warm from dancing, you can take off a layer. I encourage people to dress up in something in the style of the '40s (for the swing styles of dance) or Latin (for the Salsa, Rueda, Merengue, Tango, and Cha-Cha), Country (for Nightclub Two-Step or West-Coast Swing) or even formally (for Waltz and Foxtrot), although this is certainly not required. See my '40s Clothes page or Latin Clothes page If you're not sure what such clothing looks like. |
| When: | Saturday, August 23, 2008, from 8pm-11pm. |
| How much: | There will be an admission cost of $3.00 per person to offset the cost of refreshments and other preparations. |
Important: RSVP to me if you plan on attending; again, we don't have room for an infinite number of people. . . Thanks.
Hope to see you there! (er, here!)
Dave
